The Justice Department, Bureau of Justice Statistics has a page which lists the percentage of the U.S. population that is comprised of white males aged 14-24, the percentage that is comprised of black males aged 14-24, and the percentage of homicides committed by both groups of young men.

In 1999, white males aged 14-24 comprised 6.1 percent of the population and committed 18 percent of all homicides. (Note: When collecting data on perpetrators, Hispanics are counted as white, distorting upwards the percentage of homicides attributed to them.)

In 1999, black males aged 14-24 comprised 1.1 percent of the population and committed 27 percent of all homicides.
