In addition to guns, I have had a long time interest in someday building a passive solar home so I can go “off grid” and forget the rest of the world. While in Border’s Bookstore this afternoon I picked up a copy of the May/June issue of Backwoods Home Magazine because it featured an article on solar building design on the cover.

At page 8 there was also an article by Massad Ayoob entitled “Armed And Female” (giving Paxton Quigley credit for the term) and relating stories of how women have used firearms to defend themselves against assorted cretins. (Mr. Ayoob is a former police officer and runs the Lethal Force Institute.)

Backwoods Home Magazine has a website which can be accessed at www.backwoodshome.com which has in its archives numerous other articles which Mr. Ayoob has written for them. ANTHING on guns written by Mr. Ayoob is well worth reading.

Backwoods Home Magazine also looks like something worth subscribing to for those of us who would like to settle out in the boonies.
