In 1835 an oppressive government came to take away the small cannon
Gonzales had with which to protect itself. And the citizens of this small
frontier town said “Come and take it!”, and defeated the Mexican’s attempt
to disarm the community. That was the beginning of the revolution for
freedom for Texians.

Texans from all over Congressional District 14 and surrounding counties
will be in Gonzales to hear Congressman Ron Paul and U. S. House Majority
Leader Dick Armey talk about our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
On Wednesday, May 31st, there will be a private reception with U. S.
Congressmen Armey and Paul, State Representative Rick Green, and Vice
Chairman of the Republican Party David Barton. If schedules can be arranged
confirmation is expected that RPT Chairman Susan Weddington, and State
Representative Susanna Hupp will also be in attendance. The reception and
photo opportunity will be $100 per couple. At 6:30 all is open to the public
at no cost. The location of the event is the Randle-Rather Building at the
corner of St. George and St. Paul on the square in Gonzales.

“This is probably the biggest political event we have enjoyed in Gonzales,”
said Gonzales County Republican Chairman, Myrna McLeroy, “This is a first
for Gonzales. I don’t believe we have ever had a U. S. Congressional
Majority Leader in our town, not to mention the other important leaders who
will be here all in one room. Congressman Armey is a great American and
works hard to help us take back our personal freedoms.” In his book “The
Freedom Revolution”, Congressman Armey notes, “Americans are weary of big
government and its false promises. We are choosing a different path -
individual freedom and personal responsibility. We are nearing the day
when all the big taxers, big spenders, social engineers, and divisive
interest groups, and irrelevant leaders of modern liberalism will seem like
relics from another era.” It is not a moment for the timid. Armey
calls for the limited government our founders intended. Congressman Armey
was first elected to Congress in 1984. He was born in Cando, North Dakota,
and was an economics professor at the University of North Texas when he won
his first congressional seat in an upset.

And how appropriate the setting will be for this Second Amendment rally.
