From our friends North of the border

March 1st, 2012

For those of you who have been paying particular attention to Canada’s implementation of
draconian gun control laws, I can relay some good news. The first cracks in the whole
registry and licensing system are beginning to show as non-compliance and low
registration volumes have forced the federal government in Ottawa to lower some user
fees, such as the $45 licensing fees (Possession Only License) and eliminate others, like
the $25 firearms transfer fees, in a vain attempt to salvage their vaunted universal
firearms registry. Recently, government representatives requested a meeting with the
National Firearms Association (our version of the NRA) in hopes that a deal might be
struck to bring the NFA onside by offering some concessions. The NFA and other pro-gun
groups and organizations were in total agreement when they told the Liberal’s to, “blow
it out their ear!” Even though we do not expect a favorable decision from the Supreme
Court of Canada as to the constitutionality of the new Firearms Act (decision slated to
be released this Thursday), morale remains high within the recreational firearms
community. Given current processing rates, the government can expect to finish licensing
Canada’s firearms community in the year 2025. A little short of their Dec. 31, 2000
deadline…. Keep fighting unjust laws everyone, slowly but surely we’re winning the war!
