Officer shot multiple times while bystanders watch
Just watched the news:
Tempe, AZ- Officer Scott Tipton was shot down by a man who was reported to have been following a woman. The woman called police, and Officer Tipton approached the man in question.
Alarmed, the man pulled a handgun and fired on the officer, who returned fire. The gunfight went on long enough for two different people to call 911. From the reports, there were around 7-9 people watching, some close enough to consider themselves at risk.
About a year ago, a similar situation occurred where several men ambushed a police officer. A man, seeing that the officer was outgunned, pulled his (I believe) 1911a from his holster and opened fire, hitting at least one. The man was attributed to saving the life of the officer and given an award for heroism (in Phoenix, we do things like that).
Last week, no one had a gun, and the officer was shot six times. He was able, just barely, to fire a few more rounds and hit the aggressor, who has since died from those wounds. The officer is recovering from his wounds, and is apparently out if danger.
One of the callers is the wife of a former police officer.
Something to think about.
