I’ve been emailing candidates for the last month or so trying to find out where they all stand on my ONE ISSUE this fall: gun rights. I recieved the following e-mail from a state legislature candidate:

“Thank you for your questions. First I would like you to know that I am a firm believer in our 2nd amendment rights! I believe that we have too many laws restricting firearms.

The problem with all of these restrictions is that only law abiding citizens are going to live up to these laws. Criminals will always have access to firearms unless they are locked up in prison. Which brings me to my next statement, we have a huge problem with the enforcement of existing laws. Case and point, my uncle was murdered by a woman who tried to obtain a handgun
legally, and could not. She then tried to borrow a gun from four separate individuals, they all refused. One of the four testified that she told him she was going to kill my uncle if she could get a gun. This woman then broke in to a home and stole a handgun and then upon arriving at my uncles home, she shot him in the back of the head. She was up for parol in less than three years due to good behavior, and our family had to fight to keep her in prison for another six years before they let her out on the streets, where she is free today.”

Now this guy knows the truth first hand….I wish he could convince more of his fellows with his story!
