Subject: VA-ALERT: Pro-gun letter in RTD
Richmond Times-Dispatch printed a letter of mine today:
‘Raspberry’ Writers Deserve On, Too
Referring to Rex Springston’s and Daniel Neman’s raspberry article
(“A bump crop of Raspberries” 12/31/00), I don’t want them to feel
left out, so I am sending a few well-deserved and very large ones
their way.
The “Watch out for the wild rice!” and “No shoes, no guns, no
service” sections of the article are used to pummel Senator Stephen
Martin and Senator George Allen for the horrible, horrible sin of
speaking out for our God-given right to defend ourselves – even when
we go out to eat. Since it is inconceivable in Mr. Springston’s and
Mr. Neman’s world that a crime might happen in, or around, a
restaurant, perhaps the Secret Service should just take the evening
off when the President is eating out. If they are not necessary, the
taxpayers could save a lot of money.
Or maybe I misunderstood. Maybe it is just not fair to criminals if
we don’t give them the upper hand once in a while. Imagine for a
minute the plight of the criminal – actually having to try and figure
out which citizens are armed with a concealed handgun and which are
not. Poor, poor criminals. That is way too dangerous for them. By
making restaurants self-defense free zones, the criminals, at their
convenience, can just wait outside of the restaurant of their choice
and find a steady supply of helpless victims courtesy of the State!
Sort of welfare for the criminally insane.
I do want to ask Mr. Springston and Mr. Neman their secret for
finding so many raspberries while keeping their heads firmly
implanted in the sand. I always thought raspberries grew on vines
above ground?
