Condition Orange pays off – at 5 in the morning in suburbia…
Hi All,
The other morning I woke up at 4:45 or so. (sick) Decided to get a cup of coffee and start the day. Got my coffee and took the dog for a stroll around the ‘hood.
I live in a quiet town, good neighborhood, cul-de-sac with the state police academy a mile down the road and a police sub-station three blocks away. We had one incident of stealing stuff from cars last week and a daylight burglary (same week).
About the time we got back to the house, a car pulls in the ‘hood. Creeps along, looking for something it seems. I noted that it was five in the morning, about a hour early for the paper guy.
I’m in jeans, docksiders and a sweatshirt. I have a streetlight in my drive and, in fact, the whole neighborhood is lit up well.
These two bozos drive slowly past me and der hund. One of them flips me the bird and starts to open the door. (car is barely faster than a walking pace)
Something (his guardien angel) keeps him in the car and away they go. Bulb is out over the license plate, so I don’t get the tag number.
I have no idea what they wanted – but my .38 in my back pocket was there if I’d needed it…..
No hits, no runs, no fouls. They never knew I was armed and I didn’t have to spend the morning interfacing with the local LEOs. A satisfactory end to the story IMHO.
If it wasn’t for the previous weeks crime, I probably would not been armed. Won’t make that mistake again.
The moral of this story is that no matter how safe things seem, being armed and alert may prevent your sudden demise.
Good luck!
