FWD: Rising Crime Rates in the UK
Original Message—–
Came across this article in last week’s Economist, the British weekly news
magazine that is staunchly anti-gun:
http://www.economist.com/printedition/displayStory.cfm?Story_ID=513031>
It summarizes a study done by the Dutch Ministry of Justice comparing
violent crime victimization rates in various countries. The results are
nothing new to those who have known about the disastrous consequences of
civilian disarmament in the British Commonwealth nations. But what is
enlightening (amusing?) is how the Economist is so perplexed at the causes
and seems reluctant to discuss the factor of civilian gun ownership. Their
speculation on the causes of the extremely high violent crime rates in
Australia, England & Wales border on the ludicrous — “lax sentencing
policies cannot be to blame,” “increased social mobility,” “urbanization,”
and this howler, “the ‘get-rich-quick’ attitudes of the 1980s.”
For more background on gun prohibition in England, Australia, Canada, New
Zealand, and South Africa, and its disastrous consequences read:
