Accused Robber Caught The family of a used car dealer is breathing a
sigh of relief after an attempted robbery suspect is captured.

There’s been a major break in an attempted armed robbery case that was
caught on tape.

Last Tuesday, a Gallatin Road used car dealer turned the tables on a
couple of would-be armed robbers, firing back in self-defense.

Now, the alleged gunman is in custody.

News 2′s Andy Cordan was the only reporter to talk to the family. He
told the family that one of the alleged bandits was captured this
weekend, and as you might expect, they were ecstatic and also relieved
by the news of the arrest.

Used car dealer Bennie Hackney fired those three shots in self-defense,
and it looks like the 56-year-old grandfather of 12 is a pretty accurate
shooter.

Metro police booked Marcus Flenoid on charges of attempted aggravated
robbery. The 19-year-old was nursing a serious bullet wound to his right
arm, and he was still wearing his hospital gown from the Sumner Regional
Medical Center where he checked himself in Tuesday night.

“I was really glad to hear he’s off the street,” said Bennie Hackney.

Metro police said Flenoid is the lead gunman in the surveillance video.
He was identified in the used car case after Gallatin police saw the
footage on News 2 and determined Flenoid’s story about being shot in
Gallatin was a lie.

“Flenoid had been evasive about what happened to him,” said Gallatin
Police Chief Walter Tangel.

Gallatin police quickly found Flenoid’s white Nissan Maxima at the
hospital. Inside, investigators found a bloody passenger seat and blood
stained clothing, complete with bullet holes.

Authorities said Marcus Flenoid was shot three times: two times in the
arm once in the buttocks.

One of those .38 slugs was found on the floorboard. Authorities said
Metro ballistics matched that slug to the gun fired by Mr. Hackney.

Authorities said the half inch round passed through Flenoid’s hip, then
fell to floorboards, becoming a piece of evidence that strongly links
Flenoid to the crime.

Jane Hackney is still packing her .38 and glad the alleged gun man is
off the street.

“I hope he’s in a lot of pain. He deserves to be; he wants to give other
people pain,” said Jane Hackney.

Flenoid is in the metro jail under a $30,000 bond.

As for the second man in the video, Metro police told News 2 they’ve
identified him, and he admitted to being in the car that night and even
driving Flenoid to the hospital. Charges against that man are expected
this week as well.
