FBI Uniform Crime Reports show Maryland has highest robbery rate in nation

The most recent FBI Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) for 2000 show Maryland with the highest robbery rate in America for the sixth consecutive year.

Inspection of the 2000 UCR crime data by mathematicians at Maryland Citizens Defense League (MCDL) shows Maryland has risen to #3 in violent crime, #3 in murder, and keeps America?s top robbery rate, held since 1995, giving Maryland the dubious distinction as one of the most violent states in the nation.

The 2000 UCR (p. 79, Table 5, “Index of Crime by State”) reveals the rate of robbery in Maryland was 256.0 per 100,000 citizens. That rate was higher than New York?s rate of 213.6 and higher than the national robbery rate of 144.9. In fact, Maryland is the only state with a higher robbery rate than that of Puerto Rico (229.9).

MCDL declares that methods available for “victim prevention” in the Free State are at an all-time low because of onerous legislation which not only ties the hands of law-abiding citizens who choose to protect themselves, but also punishes those same citizens when career criminals are injured or killed. By sponsoring and promoting victim disarmament in high-crime neighborhoods, Maryland?s politicians have created the violent criminal?s best dream ? a “victim-rich” environment. For the professional and amateur robber alike, Maryland now sports the safest working conditions in the United States.

Legislators who continue to inflict gun control theory upon citizens during the 2002 legislative session are demonstrating either an inability to understand the reality of violent crime confronting the people of Maryland, or worse, a ruthless lack of caring. By promoting anti-”gun” policies over anti-”crime” policies, Maryland?s legislators and their academic cohorts have become fixated on the tools of crime and have totally disregarded the perpetrators of crime. MCDL warns that such bankrupt policies have not only destroyed public faith in the justice system, but have also destroyed the resources and lives of countless taxpaying citizens.

When deciding between “gun” control and “criminal” control, MCDL warns every U.S. state to view Maryland as an abysmal failure. Says MCDL co-founder, Edward Patrick, “Under the banner of gun control, Marylanders have endured decades of failed crime policy and dysfunctional social theory. Not only have we been victimized by predatory criminals, but we?ve been exploited by predatory politicians who protect them.”

The Maryland Citizens Defense League, founded in 1998, protects the natural rights and civil liberties of the citizens of Maryland, including the rights of citizens to defend their lives and the lives of their loved ones. MCDL does this by informing and educating the public and by encouraging appropriate legislation and legal action. MCDL has members in 8 Maryland counties and several states, with chapters in Howard and Montgomery Counties. For further information, contact http://www.mcdl.org on the web, or MCDL, P.O.
