….. does a man or woman escape being a victim of a crime simply because the presence of their legal weapon causes them to walk taller, appear (indeed, *be*) more confident, be more alert to their surroundings and take pro-active precautions to avoid placing themselves in a dangerous situation in the first place if possible?

……. does the victimizer discount this person as a potential victim without ever coming into contact with him/her, instead choosing someone else who scuttles down the sidewalk, clutching his/her coat tightly, avoiding eye contact and exuding a palpable fear, defeated before the confrontation has even begun because they already believe themselves to be a potential victim?
