Police: Teen shot, arrested after alleged burglary attempt
By Matt Holsapple, Journal and Courier

A 16-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday night after being shot while
allegedly attempting to burglarize a West Lafayette house.

Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Steve Kohne said police were
contacted by representatives at Arnett Urgent Care in West Lafayette
when the boy went to the facility for treatment of a gunshot wound in
his leg shortly after 6 p.m.

After questioning both the wounded boy and the shooter, Kohne said
police established that the boy had gone to a house at 152 Prophet Road
in West Lafayette. After receiving no answer at the door, he entered the
home and went into one of the bedrooms.

In the bedroom, a second 16-year-old boy, who lives at the address, was
hiding in a closet with a .22 pistol. Kohne said when the intruder
entered the bedroom, the resident jumped out of the closet with the gun.
In the ensuing fight, the gun went off, injuring the intruder’s leg.
Kohne said the intruder had also allegedly burglarized the home
approximately a month ago.

Police did not release either of the boys’ names because they are
juveniles.

The intruder was treated at Arnett Urgent Care and released, whereupon
he was arrested and taken to a juvenile detention facility in Howard
County.
