A southwest Houston man shot two men who forced their way into his home
Saturday night, killing one and seriously injuring another.

Thomas Shelton, 19, died at the scene in the 12200 block of Sapling Way
around 9:50 p.m. Another unidentified man was taken to Ben Taub, where
he was in fair condition today.

Police said Rodney Vaughn, 36, was sitting inside his home when he heard
a knock on the door. He looked out the window and did not recognize the
man, who was speaking inaudibly.

Vaughn retrieved a gun and cracked the door to find two men standing
outside. They asked for someone who did not live there and then forced
their way into the apartment, police said. They said Vaughn fired two
shots, injuring one man and killing Shelton, making him the 129th
homicide victim in the city of Houston this year.
