Would-be robber killed in shootout
Advocate staff report
A 25-year-old man killed another man who tried to rob him on North
Acadian Thruway West Friday morning, city police said.
Police spokesman Cpl. Don Kelly said investigators did not arrest the
shooter. They also would not release his name.
The would-be robbery victim and a woman were talking in the 1200 block
of North Acadian shortly after midnight when a car parked nearby and two
men got out. At least one had a gun and when he demanded the
25-year-old’s money, the 25-year-old pulled his own gun and they shot at
each other, Kelly said.
The robber was wounded and he and his accomplice ran back to their car.
The driver stopped to pick up the wounded robber’s gun from where he had
dropped it, then took the injured robber, later identified as Timothy
Young, 22, of 855 S. Flannery Road, to Baton Rouge General Medical
Center. He died a short time later, Kelly said.
The 25-year-old asked someone to call police after the shooting.
Since the shooting, Michael Taylor II, 18, and LaDarrion Taylor, 21,
both of 1466 Cordoba Drive, Zachary, have been arrested. LaDarrion
Taylor is suspected of driving the car and Michael Taylor is suspected
of approaching the victim with Young, Kelly said.
Both men were booked into Parish Prison with conspiracy to commit armed
robbery, attempted armed robbery and obstruction of justice, Kelly said.
Reports on the shooting will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office
for review, Kelly said.
