VA ALERT!
Chesterfield county residents,
If you are a member of any other pro-gun Virginia mailing lists,
please forward this message to get the word out as far as possible.
If you have friends in Chesterfield, pass this information on to
them, please.
We need more calls/faxes/emails to the Chesterfield County Board of
Supervisors if we want to get the county fingerprinting requirement
for concealed carry permit holders dropped in February. There have
not been enough calls and the issue will not be brought up for a vote
without some pressure on all of the supervisors. Even if you have
already been fingerprinted, they will refingerprint you every time
you renew your permit unless we get rid of the fingerprinting
requirement. Time is running out – please get in touch with your
supervisor ASAP and make the following points (#1 and #4 are the most
useful):
1. Chesterfield Police department, according to both the person who
is in charge of their records and the County Attorney’s Office,
cannot show that fingerprints are necessary in stopping the one or
two criminals who try to get a permit in the county each year.
2. Most counties, including neighboring county such as Powhatan see
no need for fingerprints. Even liberal Fairfax County does not do
fingerprinting. Are Chesterfield citizens somehow less trustworthy
then those in Powhatan or Fairfax?
3. Although counties are required by law to destroy fingerprint cards
when they come back from the FBI, the FBI has no such requirement.
This allows the FBI to build a defacto registration list of law
abiding gun owners and their fingerprints.
4. The $24 sent to the FBI for fingerprinting could be better spent
here in the county. The money could help fill the void left by the
reduced revenue on car taxes or to employ more police officers or to
pay for gun safety education in schools.
Here is the information for the Board of Supervisors. If you don’t
know which is yours, simply call the main number and someone at the
county should be able to help you:
