Buyback Scheme

March 1st, 2012

Three weeks ago a religious organization in Dallas announced the success (I guess you might say that) of their gun buyback scheme. It went something like this: bring any handgun or long gun and turn it in, thereby making society safer for the children (gun education can do that) and keeping these guns out the hands of criminals (nothing can do that) and get $50.00 cash. I won’t bother to go into the fifty dollar price tag which is worse than an insult.

I will mention that they got a bout a dozen long guns and six or seven of those demonic handguns. No questions asked, they said.

Not a problem. But I suggest a follow up:

A car buyback scheme. Let us make an announcement that men and women who like to drink and party, who think nothing of driving home when innebriated, thereby endangering who knows how many people, brign their cars in and sell them to us, for let us say five hundred dollars, no questions asked.

It will make the world safe for the children, you know, those children who are killed every year by drunks who cannot see streight, speed and run traffic control devices leaving children in wheel chairs, hospitals or dead.

It will make the world easier for the police who spend night after night arresting and booking men and women who insist they are not drunk yet cant stand up streight, act beligerantly and in the case of the man driving the pickup in Texas two years ago, get in a gun fight with police.

It will make the world safer for everybody, and of course, no questions asked.

I wonder how many people would step up, take responsibility, and sell off their cars in the name of making the world safer from irresponsible drunk drivers??
