I just got through totally destroying a VPC “study” on the use of assault
weapons to kill police officers. A guy on another board was trying to tell
me that the FBI statistics indicated that assault weapons had been used to
kill police officers in 1 out of every 5 LEO deaths. So I go to this
webpage http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr.htm and discover that the UCR don’t even
break it down that far. They break it down into pistol, rifle, and shotgun,
and then by caliber/gauge within those categories. It’s impossible to tell
which rifles are “assault weapons” and which are not. The next time someone
throws some bogus statistics on officer shootings, use that website.
