Police found the man in a nearby drainage culvert and sent him to the hospital.
Police said a suspected robber was foiled when he was shot during a robbery.
The incident happened near Uptown around 8 p.m. Wednesday. Police said a man walked up to a woman standing at a bus stop on the 2800 block of North Tryon and tried to steal her purse. That’s when another nearby man pulled out a gun and shot the would-be thief.
Officers said the suspect was shot several times in the lower legs. According to police he jumped into a nearby culvert where they later found him. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening wounds. They have since arrested him.
It is unclear if the man who shot the suspect knew the woman who was being robbed.
