Guns over laws
————————————————————————
——–
My heart and sympathies go out to all of those people injured in the
shooting spree. This ruthless act that has terrorized Montreal will no
doubt be the subject of discussions for some time.
Discussions must look beyond the obvious cries for more gun controls. We
already have gun control and the tragedy today very clearly shows that
gun control doesn’t work and more gun controls won’t work any better.
Regulating any inanimate object will never change the criminal behaviour
of a person.
It is time to look beyond the simple, knee-jerk gun control laws, which
only the law-abiding will follow and address the real problem of
criminal behaviour. Criminals don’t respect laws, can it be any more
obvious? Criminals respect force and direct threats to their well-being.
Guns in the hands of law-abiding people will do that. New laws are just
words on a piece of paper.
If there are going to be new laws, then create laws that will allow, and
encourage, all of the good people of Canada to defend themselves. If a
criminal knows they might be opposed by force from an armed citizen,
they will think twice before committing a criminal act.
