Worthless registry

I hope that I never experience the grief of losing a daughter, but the
fact that Anastasia De Sousa was murdered still does not give her
parents carte blanche to attempt to destroy the rights of others (Slain
Teen’s Parents Push For Gun Registry — Oct. 18). If this were the case,
there would be no cars or knives in Canada.

Believe it or not, Kimveer Gill was not supposed to take his guns into
the public streets or into buildings and start shooting people.

We have laws against that, even for semi-automatic rifles. In many ways
he complied completely with the gun laws and in other ways he completely
ignored whole sections of the Criminal Code. But these were the actions
of Mr. Gill, not the actions of four million other Canadians who use
firearms safely and responsibly, and who will never harm anyone with
them.

Vetting gun owners is important. But registering serial numbers and
barrel lengths in a database is absolutely worthless.
