Need for guns speaks volumes about societal problems

Re: Solicitor-general criticizes school trustee, Dec. 20
When I ride our wilderness horse trails in grizzly country, I pack my
Winchester. In 30 years of remote back-country pack trips, I’ve never
met an unarmed fellow traveller. In its place, the rifle is an essential
tool.
If women in America feel the need to pack a pistol, this speaks volumes
about their societal problems. If a well-known, home-grown advocate for
children expresses her desire to pack heat on Vancouver streets, I say
we have a growing problem. And the root of the problem is not handguns.
Sharon Gregson is on target by advocating for more social programs for
single mothers. Solicitor-General John Les and our B.C. Liberals should
focus on removing the “grizzlies” from our streets. Increased funding
for an arsenal of social programs targeted for our children would help.
