FIASCO SHOULD BE ENDED

I believe the vast majority of Canadians can clearly see that this
billion-dollar fiasco has not been in the least bit helpful, so why
shouldn’t it be dismantled (“Decision time for gun registry,” Point
of
View, Paul Berton, April 12)? The problem facing this issue is
politicians do not always make decisions based on what is good for the
country. Sometimes they make decisions based on what they think will win
votes. When it comes to firearms, being anti-gun at all costs has been
seen by some as a vote winner in vote-rich Montreal and Toronto. It
doesn’t matter if it is effective or how much it costs. Does it really
make sense to spend hundreds of millions every year to keep track of
guns owned by people who do not commit murders? Why not focus the money
and effort at the real source of the problem? The criminals!
