Re: H3419

The SC Senate Labor and Employment Subcommittee will meet Wednesday,
February 9, 2000, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 209 of the Gressette Building to discuss
H3419. H3419 is the well intentioned, but none the less harmful, range
protection bill that provides NO PROTECTION to pistol and rifle ranges. H3419
will kill the shooting sports in SC by forcing all shooting ranges to close off
membership to new members, or lose immunity from nuisance noise law suits for
five years. We must get H3419 amended as detailed in the analysis of H3419 on
the GRSC web site (http://www.scfirearms.org/leg12_99.htm ), or we must kill
H3419.

Rep. James Klauber is the sponsor of H3419. We are told the best and
easiest way to get H3419 amended in the Senate is to get Rep. Klauber to speak
on behalf of the proposed amendments. GRSC sent the detailed analysis to Rep.
Klauber and asked for the opportunity to speak with him. Rep. Klauber has not
had the opportunity to speak with us, yet. Unfortunately, time is short and we
need to show our elected representatives how we feel about H3419, NOW!

ACTION STEPS:

1. Fax (803.734.2925) and call (803.734.2402 in Columbia) Rep. James Klauber
and ask him to agree to the amendments to H3419 proposed by GRSC and Mid
Carolina Rifle Club.

2. Fax (803.212.6299) and call (803.212.6700) the five Senators on the SC
Senate Labor and Employment Subcommittee and ask them to support the GRSC
proposed amendments to H3419. Tell them H3419 threatens the safety of SC
citizens because it will close shooting ranges to new members, and it is anti
gun owner. The five Senators are Senator William O’Dell (Chairman), Senator
Thomas Moore, Senator Ernest Passailaigue, Senator Dick Elliott, and Senator
William Mescher.

3. Fax (803.212.6299), call (803.212.6700), and write (South Carolina Senate,
P.O. Box 142, Columbia, SC 29202) your Senator and ask your Senator to kill
H3419 unless the amendments proposed by GRSC are adopted. Tell them H3419 is
an anti gun owner bill as currently written.

4. Use our Auto-E-mailer to e-mail the Senators on the Subcommittee. The Auto

5. Let GRSC know the responses you get from the legislators so we can follow
up on your actions.
