A Reply to Anti-Gunners from “Abby” via Joe Chimento

Dear (anti-gun person),

Lets look at a hypothetical situation. In this scenario it doesn’t matter what sex you are. Lets say its 2:00am. You are in the house with three small children. You hear someone crashing through the front door. You pick up the phone to dial 911, but the line was cut. As you hear someone coming up the stairs, what are you going to do?

Now remember your three children are in the house. More than one stranger is in your house and you can’t call the cops. Now what? What do they want? What will they do?

You fought against the second amendment and won. There are no guns in your house. You are perfectly safe, right? Unfortunatly the three guys who just broke into your house didn’t read the newspaper this morning because they weren’t feeling too well (drugs will do that you know). So they didn’t hear that guns are illegal now. I’m sure if they had known guns were illegal, they would have decided perform their civic duties and turn theirs in right away (well as soon as they bought another load of crack. After all, criminals have priorities too you know).

Anyway, three men are coming up your stairs. Your children are asleep in their beds. No help is on the way. Given a choice between your can of mace (you crack me up), waiting for the cops to arrive (when someone realizes you haven’t shown up for work in several days), or owning a firearm, which would you rather have?

Don’t think this could happen? Well it did. To me. August 13th 1978. Thank God I had a firearm. But hey, that was just my way of dealing with the situation. I’m sure you will do just fine too. I’m sure you will find the words (if you are still alive) to explain to your small children why you couldn’t protect them. I’m sure you’ll find the right words to explain why those men did what they did to them. Just explain to them how you were afraid you would shoot someone accidentally so thats why there were no guns in the house. Thats why you never took the time to learn to be responsible with a firearm (get safety training and practice at the range). And don’t forget the thing about how guns have no place in a civilized society, that should help a lot. Oh yea and don’t forget that thing about how we pay taxes to for police protection (this should be a big help too). I’m sure you’ll find the words to make this night (several nights?) of terror go away for them.

Luckily for my kids, this horrible night is nothing but several loud bangs, and 6 hours of strangers in the house asking questions. No big deal. I did my job as a parent.
