A man who was shot and showed up at a hospital emergency room Monday
night allegedly was robbing a man on Peachtree Street in Gadsden when
the shooting occurred, according to Gadsden police.

The 19-year-old was shot in front of residence at 1107 Peachtree St.
just before 7 p.m., detective Mark Harris said.

A man was getting in his truck in front of a Peachtree Street residence
when someone put a gun to his face and demanded money, according to a
police report.

When the victim told the robber he did not have any money, the robber
put his hands in the victim’s shirt pocket.

During that time, the victim turned and got a .22 handgun and started
shooting at the man.

The victim told police he shot about five times.

The man ran down an alley and the victim went home and called police.

In the meantime, a man who was shot once in his left side and once in
his right side showed up at the Riverview Regional Medical Center
emergency room. Hospital officials called police.

The suspect was released from the hospital Monday night but is expected
to be charged with robbery, Harris said.

No charges are expected to be filed against the robbery victim, Harris
said.

Harris also is investigating several other
weekend robberies, all of individuals, he said.

In one of the robberies, a 22-year-old told police he was leaving a
friend’s apartment at Riverview Apartments early Tuesday when someone
jumped from behind bushes and pointed a gun at him.

The man told him to give up his money and struck him in the head with
the pistol and grabbed a gold chain from around the victim’s neck,
according to police.

Anyone who has information about any of the robberies is asked to call
Harris at 549-4624 or the police main number at 549-4500.
