ANOTHER HUNTING GAFFE FOR KERRY . . . Sunday’s New York Times has an article illustrated with another picture of Senator John Kerry holding a semi-auto shotgun aloft in Ohio. The story’s about Kerry’s visit to the state, including how he spent $140 to purchase a hunting license. It’s another portrayal of the Senator as a hunter, even though he enjoys complete support from anti-hunting organizations. The story, which is available on the Times’ Web site with a free registration, quotes Democrat operative Mike McCurry as joking that Kerry is in Ohio, “To go kill defenseless animals somewhere.” The Times characterizes the remark as “a reminder that, even while courting middle-of-the-road voters, the party’s base is never entirely out of anyone’s mind.”
