ANTI-GUNNERS STILL CAN’T LOOK AT THE FACTS
ANTI-GUNNERS STILL CAN’T LOOK AT THE FACTS
A new study published today in the Journal of the American Medical
Association is sure to have the anti-gun crowd giggling with delight. But,
like so many anti-gun arguments, the study has a fatal flaw.
The study says the 1990 California law banning the sale of handguns to
convicted criminals lowers the chances that they will commit violent,
gun-related crimes in the future.
Researchers looked at Californians who had at least one conviction for a
violent misdemeanor and tried to buy guns before and after the law went into
effect in 1991. Those who bought their guns before it became illegal to do
so were 29 percent more likely to be arrested for a new gun-related or other
violent crime.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the hole in this study. It’s a
big, gaping hole. The kind of hole you could drive a tank through.
This study only examines people who buy guns through licensed dealers. It
totally ignores the illegal gun purchases through unlicensed sellers. Of
course it makes sense that you wouldn’t include these numbers, because there
are no statistics for illegal gun sales–only estimates.
And to include illegal gun sales in the study would be to admit that gun
control laws cannot prevent criminals from obtaining their weapons. That’s
the last thing an anti-gunner wants to admit.
Face it, folks. The gun grabbers out there can’t give you complete,
uncooked statistics saying that gun control works. That’s because it has
little or no effect on the criminals. Regardless of the law, they will keep
breaking it to get the tools of their trade. You, on the other hand, follow
the law–and if you allow yourself to be disarmed, you’ll be at the
criminals’ mercy.
