Arkansas Governor Plans to Hand Out Shotgun Shells
7/26/00
Arkansas Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee
plans to hand out personalized shotgun shells as
part of a campaign in support of gun rights, the
Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported July 25.
Huckabee plans to present a personalized 12-gauge shotgun shell to Republican Gov.
George W. Bush of Texas, the likely Republican
presidential nominee, when he visits the state.
The inscription on the shell reads, “Mike
Huckabee, a governor who supports the 2nd
Amendment”
Huckabee also is expected to present another
shell to Wayne LaPierre, executive vice
president of the National Rifle Association, when he visits the state for a gun-rights rally.
Several cases of the personalized live ammunition shells were sent to Huckabee by the Remington Arms Co., which operates an ammunition factory in Lonoke, Ark. The company sent the
unsolicited gift when they saw a photo of the
governor duck hunting with shells manufactured
by an out-of-state company.
“We told him it’d be a great thing for a person in public office to be using products made in
Arkansas,” said Paul Cahan, general manager of
Remington Arms. Huckabee “loved the idea” and
accepted a gift of 500 shells.
