Dear Virginia Gun Rights Supporter:
Without your immediate action, House Speaker Vance Wilkins and the
Republican Leadership will bury all pro-gun bills in committee. Of
course, the anti-gunners don’t feel obligated to sit still. They are
likely to push new restrictions this year, including the following:
1. “Lock-up Your Safety bills,” mandating trigger locks and gun
storage guidelines;
2. More “No-Safety Zones” where law-abiding gun owners are
prohibited from carrying their firearms; and
3. Further Restrictions on Gun Shows
Some have said that Virginia gun owners can take a breather now that
Republicans control the legislature. NOT SO! In fact, it is reported
that the Republican leadership in the House is leaning on pro-gun
legislators to stop them from introducing good gun bills. This is,
in fact, an ill-conceived “incumbent protection policy” and is
unacceptable to gun owners in Virginia. Your delegate and senator
need to know that “Status Quo is No Go in Virginia!”
Gun owners don’t want excuses from the political establishment. Many
gun owners of Virginia want the following:
1. A REPEAL OF THE RESTAURANT BAN FOR CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT HOLDERS
Why should our wives and daughters be disarmed in dark parking lots?
2. LIFETIME EXTENSION OF CONCEALED CARRY PERMITS
Why should law-abiding citizens be forced to reapply every five
years for concealed carry permits (a “permit” for which they should
not have to apply in the first place)?
3. UNILATERAL RECOGNITION OF OUT-OF-STATE CONCEALED CARRY PERMITS.
Unilateral recognition is a simpler and more efficient way to
encourage other states to recognize Virginia permits.
4. ELIMINATION OF “NO-SAFETY ZONES”
Gun control advocates have used so-called “Gun-Free Zones” as a
means of disarming law-abiding citizens.
There are several legislators who are considering introducing
pro-gun legislation in spite of Speaker Wilkins’ apparent “blockade”
of pro-gun bills. But in order to assure that good gun legislation
makes it out of committee, Virginia gun owners need to take the
following action:
1. FIRST, PRINT OUT AND SEND THE ATTACHED MESSAGES (or better yet,
send a personal letter or fax) to your delegate and your State
senator. If you don’t know who your legislators are and you don’t
have Web access, you can call the General Information line at (804)
698-1500, and they should help you–and provide fax numbers.
Zipcode lookup for legislators:
http://206.246.254.9/whosmy/constinput.asp
Complete legislative contact information (has some e-mail
addresses):
http://leg1.state.va.us/001/mbr/MBR.HTM
2. AFTER YOU HAVE WRITTEN, FAXED, OR E-MAILED YOUR LEGISLATORS, CALL
YOUR DELEGATE AND SENATOR (especially if they are Republicans) and
tell them you expect them to cast every vote in support of the
passage of pro-gun legislation.
3. PLEASE SEND THIS ALERT TO YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY and ask them to
contact their legislators, too.
You and I need to send a strong message to our Virginia
representatives that inaction on pro-gun issues is not a way to keep
a majority, or win one back.
Sincerely,
Dennis Fusaro
Director of State Legislation

Delegate ______________
General Assembly Building

Richmond, VA 23219

Dear Delegate ______________,
House Speaker Vance Wilkins has reportedly declared that no gun bill
will make it to the floor during the 2000 session. While this policy
is acceptable for gun control bills, IT IS UNACCEPTIBLE for pro-gun
legislation. My right to defend myself should not be subordinated to
anyone–or any party’s–political ambitions.
Virginians don’t want more of the same. Virginians want the
following:
1. A REPEAL OF THE RESTAURANT BAN FOR CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT HOLDERS
Why should our wives and daughters be disarmed in dark parking lots?
2. LIFETIME EXTENSION OF CONCEALED CARRY PERMITS
Why should law-abiding citizens be forced to reapply every five
years for concealed carry permits? State law already revokes
concealed carry permits of criminals.
3. RECOGNITION OF OUT-OF-STATE CONCEALED CARRY PERMITS.
Why should law-abiding out-of-state concealed carry permit holders
be disarmed during their stay in Virginia?
4. ELIMINATION OF “NO-SAFETY ZONES”
In 1999, the Governor signed into law HB 1462, a bill banning even
unloaded firearms from school property. Those of the gun control
lobby have used so-called “Gun-Free Zones” to disarm law-abiding
citizens. Such “No-Safety Zones” should be abolished.
I ask you to support or sponsor the above legislation and continue
the progress towards lifting the unconstitutional restraints put on
law-abiding gun owners in Virginia. Firearms are used for lawful
self-defense over 2 MILLION times a year in our country. The right
of Virginians to defend themselves should be supported with vigilant
action by legislators in the Commonwealth. Please respond and tell
me what you will do.
