Burnaby dad hurt in home invasion
——————————————————————————–
Police are looking for two men after a violent and bloody home invasion in Burnaby at a house where a five-month-old baby boy was sleeping.
The pair smashed a window at the residence on the corner of Canada Way and Burris Street at about 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Once inside, they confronted the father and STABBED him repeatedly. The mother had stepped out to buy medicine for her infant and was not home.
A family member told Global TV the victim suffered six stab wounds to his side, and was also wounded in the hand, leg and head. He underwent surgery and was in good condition at Royal Columbian Hospital yesterday.
Another of the victim’s family members suggested to Global that the crime must have resulted from a case of mistaken identity.
Global also reported that a live nine-millimetre handgun round was found at the scene, and that police said it was not one of theirs.
Yesterday, a pile of blood-soaked bandages in the driveway, blood spatters on the front walkway and shattered glass were reminders of the brutal crime that neighbours said came as a complete shock.
“We’ve never had anything like that in this neighbourhood before,” said Brian Shinmar, who lives next to the white bungalow.
The victim and his family moved in about six months ago and were quiet, he added.
Shinmar said the home invasion has prompted him to consider installing a lockable gate across his home’s driveway.
