Greetings all!
The issue of gun-owner registration and owner licensing is alive and kicking in California right now. AB273 will require licensing and registration of all handguns effective January 1, 2002. It is now in the Senate and has been amended several times. The latest iteration will require handgun owners to be licensed and to complete a written exam covering several subjects and to pass a proficiency test. The license will be good for five years or until your drivers license expires. Renewal fees: $20 to state and $12 or $15 to local agency.
A 6/27 hearing is set for it in the SENATE public safety committee.

Please write a letter to your local representive urging him or her to oppose AB273. This should take only ten minutes of your time and will only cost the price of a stamp. Your voice is more valuable and more needed in this era of extreme anti-gun sentiment than ever before.
A handwritten letter carries the most weight with our elected officials. A sample letter is outlined at the end of this note, for your convenience.

Thank you for your continued support of freedom and the Second Amendment.

SAMPLE LETTER
Dear Senator:
I am writing to oppose AB273. Gun-owner registration and licensing will not reduce crime and will not keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Criminals will not register with law enforcement as gun-owners, nor will they apply for a license to use a firearm. It would be incredibly rare for a criminal to leave a registered gun at a crime scene. Therefore, the net effect of AB273 amounts to nothing more than a pre-cursor to confiscation which, as you know, is in direct violation of the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
As a voter in your district, I urge you to support the U.S. Constitution and vote NO on AB273.
Sincerely,
