CHARLTON HESTON BLASTS: STARS WITH BODYGUARDS ARE WIMPS!
SCREEN legend Charlton Heston doesn’t use bodyguards or high-priced security — because his guns are all the protection he needs.
And Heston, who doubles as the president of the National Rifle Association, says actors who have bodyguards are just “wimps!”
“I myself have never used a bodyguard,” declares Heston, 77. “I have received my share of death threats. Over the years, I’ve gotten kooky, weird letters in the mail from stalker types who are obsessed with me — men and women. But I refuse to let that stuff bother me.
“At home I keep about 10 firearms to protect me, so I feel secure there. I would shoot to kill to protect my life or my wife’s life and safety.”
Heston explains how one female fan kept him on his guard.
“For years I received letters from a woman who insisted she was going to marry me. She sent me elaborate plans that she created for our ‘wedding,’ including fancy invitations that she had printed up! I didn’t even know this woman. She was a total stranger.”
As for bodyguards, the Ben Hur star says that’s just a big show by guys trying to feel important.
“I’ve been in restaurants where five burly bodyguards walk in and check out the place, before their client — the big star — comes in and orders a meal.
“It’s laughable. Usually the ‘big star’ is just a guy on a TV show or in a movie. He’ll walk around with bodyguards because it makes him look more important than he actually is.
“It’s just a way for people to boost their egos.”
