Being in a “bad mood” landed a 22-year-old man in jail Wednesday after he
allegedly stabbed a local motel clerk in the stomach with a knife.

The clerk, Dawn Barron, 36, of Huntsville, was treated at Huntsville
Hospital and released. The stabbing occurred around 2 p.m. at the Econo
Lodge, 10013 South Memorial Parkway.

Officers arrested Jorge Onofre on charges of first-degree assault, said
south precinct investigator Brian Williams. Onofre had been a guest at the
motel.

Police were not sure where he lives.

Witnesses told police Onofre had been drinking and was depressed about
something – they weren’t sure what, though. Friends of Onofre told officers
he went out for a walk and, when he returned, walked into the lobby and cut
Barron.

The reason?

Williams said that when investigators talked to Onofre on Wednesday he
appeared to be intoxicated. But he didn’t have a reason for the attack,
other than he was in a bad mood, Williams said.

Barron told investigators Onofre had been in the lobby earlier in the day to
pay his bill. She said there had never been a problem with him, Williams
said.

After he cut her Wednesday, she hid behind a table for protection.

Investigators planned to interview Onofre again today, Williams said.
