Countering the insanity
everybody on this is list familiar with the HCI lie that “A gun in the home is 43 times more likely to kill somebody in the home (or “a family member”) than to kill a bad guy”?

uses the same fatally flawed reasoning to show that not keeping a gun in the home increases your risk factor to 99 to 1. In other words, someone in the home is 99 times more likely to be killed than is a bad guy, if there is no gun in the home.
So, if you kept a gun in the home for self-protection, but then turned it is to some gun buyback program because of, say, Columbine, your chance of being killed in your own home would double. But at least, thank God, you wouldnt have been killed by that gun.
Pretty scary stuff.
