DONT LIKE THE 2ND AMENDMENT? REPEAL IT.

Recently, a new contributor to this forum honored us with a quote from Thomas Jefferson.

“I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.” Taken from a letter to Samuel Kercheval, July 12, 1816.

Many of those who would disarm us believe that the 2nd Amendment is a throwback to the past and has no place in a modern society. For them Art. V of the Constitution provides a solution: Amend the Constitution to eliminate the 2nd Amendment.

If the majority of Americans REALLY believe that we no longer need a 2nd Amendment, they can lobby Congress to propose 29th Amendment to repeal the 2nd. Congress would propose such an amendment to the States by a two thirds vote of both houses. Once the amendment is ratified by three fourths of the States — Poof! No more 2nd Amendment.

Something like this was already done to end Prohibition. Ratification of the 18th Amendment in 1919 ushered in Prohibition. People realized that this was a mistake and, in 1933, ratification of the 21st Amendment ended Prohibition by repealing the 18th Amendment.

Don’t like the 2nd Amendment? Repeal it.
