AS IT TURNS OUT, THE NRA WAS RIGHT ON THIS ONE
Fox News Channel did some research into H. Rap Brown’s little run-in with
the law in 1995 and guess what! Indeed it was Janet Reno’s Justice
Department and a Clinton appointed U.S. Attorney who decided not to
prosecute Brown (Jamil Al-Amin) on federal weapons violation.
It’s hard for the liberals to hide from this one. While they’re out there
joining Clinton in his demands for more federal gun control laws, we now
have a clear example of the consequences of not enforcing the laws we
already have on the books. We have one dead Fulton County Deputy Sheriff
…. a man who might be drawing death today if Clinton was more action and
less talk.
HILLARY WANTS TO LICENSE FIREARMS OWNERS…BUT SO DOES RUDY
If there’s one thing Rudy Giuliani and Queen Hillary Clinton agree on, it’s
that they both want tougher restrictions on firearms purchasers.
Yesterday, Giuliani told an approving, conservative crowd in upstate New
York that anyone wanting to own a firearm should “have to pass a written
exam that shows they know how to use the gun, that they’re intelligent
enough and responsible enough to handle a gun.” Giuliani also tried to draw
a parallel between licensing drivers and gun owners. He also expressed his
support for New York Governor George Pataki’s package of gun-control
proposals.
Here’s some news for you, Mr. Giuliani. We license automobile drivers so
they can operate their vehicles on PUBLIC roads and highways. You don’t need
a license to drive a car or a truck on your private property. The same goes
for firearms. The government doesn’t license firearms owners if they keep
their guns in the privacy of their own homes. But if they want to carry
those same firearms in public, we already have a licensing system. It’s
called a license to carry a concealed handgun, and it’s available, without
restrictions, to law-abiding citizens in 31 states. In many of those states,
the licensee has to demonstrate a knowledge of the laws and competence with
his handgun–exactly what Rudy Giuliani wants of ALL gun owners.
You have to admit, though, that basic lessons in firearms laws, gun safety,
and proper shooting technique would be appropriate for gun buyers…just
because there’s no shortage of bloomin’ idiots out there.
AIRBORNE EXPRESS STICKS IT TO ITS CUSTOMERS
Following in the footsteps of UPS, Airborne Express has decided to stop
shipping firearms and ammunition. UPS did something similar last year–their
policy now is to impose higher shipping rates on handgun parcels, causing
gun dealers and manufacturers to pass those higher costs on to consumers.
Both companies say their new policies are designed to cut down on theft of
guns from packages by their own employees. This, in turn, cuts down on the
risk of lawsuits by victims if the guns are used to commit crimes.
Yeah…that makes a lot of sense. Instead of cleaning up your own house, you
punish the shipper who tempted your employees with all those valuable guns.
That would be like airlines banning checked luggage in order to curb thefts
by unscrupulous baggage handlers.
