Home invasion suspect shot

Two men were injured in a suspected home invasion Monday evening, and one of them was one of the suspected invaders, Atlanta police said.

Police responded to a 911 call on Bellview Avenue, N.W. just before 7 p.m. The resident at that address, Danta Young, 25, had wrestled with one of two men who tried to enter the house and had disarmed the gunman, said police spokesman John Quigley. But in disarming the invader, the gun had gone off and taken Young’s finger off with it, he said.

Daryl Alan Reed, 20, one of the two home invasion suspects, was shot in the face during the melee, but Quigley said it was unclear whether Reed was shot by Young or by Diego Eberhart, 27, Young’s cousin who was staying at the house.

Reed, who is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, was in critical condition Monday night at Grady Memorial Hospital. Neither Young nor Eberhart faces any charges in the incident, Quigley said. The second home invasion suspect fled the scene and may also have been injured by gunfire, he said.
