In the U.K., hunting with hounds is not illegal, and a large number of vocal
supporters are trying to keep it legal, after the spectre of a ban appeared.
As for gun violence in general, after a school shooting over here, all
pistols were banned. Now we have about 4 times the number of shootings as
before the ban. This is because only the criminals have guns, so when
challenged, they can shoot people in safety. Also, the British police have
armed patrols, called ARV’s, with 2 bullet-proof vest-wearing police armed
with HK MP-5 machine guns, and Glock pistols. At airports, etc. they are
routinely armed. Also, all officers wear knife-proof vests and carry CS
sprays and a baton. That is without mentioning the “SWAT” team, which is
normally known as SO-19 (Special Operations-19). Because the UK is so small,
the police here can get away with calling for assistance and waiting every
time, rather than having to stop them straight away.
Also, the hunters eat the animals they kill, rther than sell them, as they
don’t often use that as a source of income, more as food. As for suffering,
I would rather be killed by a single shot to the head, or even severl not
very good shots, than hung upside down, and having my throat cut so the
blood all gets drained out of my body as I die, so I would be “Halal”!
(Personally, i won’t eat Halal meat anymore, as it is far worse to my mind
than fox hunting, and it tends to be very tough too!)

Other posts said about making it more illegal, more laws and things like
that, well, how would that work? If you kill someone with a knife it is
murder, same as a gun. It still carries life or a death sentence, depending
where you are. So what difference does an extra 5 years for having a gun
make? It is like passing a law that says “Anyone doing something illegal is
breaking the law, and must stop it right now.” I don’t see how that could
ever work!

Another small problem is that if you destroyed all the guns, some bright
spark would make an Uzi or a STEN gun, and take over.

The final thought: A toaster can kill, your hands can kill, a gun can kill,
a chair can kill, Arsenic can kill, religion kills more than all the others
put together. Wouldn’t it be better to live somewhere that everyone ISN’T
trying to kill everyone else?

I cut myself with a knife several times, shot myself once, been shot once,
been beaten up many times, cut my finger on a hedge trimmer, hack-sawed
through my thumb… Been shooting since I was ten, and I haven’t killed or
wounded anyone, except myself.
Just thought you might like to hear an English point of view.
