Australia: Daylight robbery – security guards hit

TWO security guards were robbed of a large sum of money and their handguns in a brazen armed hold-up in daylight yesterday.

The two Chubb security guards had just finished a routine cash pick-up at Mt Druitt railway station when they were confronted by two armed men in North Parade at 1.40pm.

Chief Inspector Wayne Ross said the guards were confronted by the two robbers as they neared the van.

The thieves demanded the bag containing a “large sum of money” before robbing the two security guards of their guns.

Both men ran from the scene before escaping in a Holden VN Commodore sedan parked nearby.

“The two guards were not hurt, but are shaken up,” Insp Ross said.

A police spokesman said: “They had guns pointed at their heads as they were forced to the ground.”

The two men remained at the scene for about an hour as detectives carried out their investigations. One of the guards was later seen still wearing his empty holster around his waist.

Detectives last night were reviewing closed-circuit footage to see whether it captured the robbery.

The men were described as being about 175cm tall, heavily built and wearing balaclavas. Both were armed with revolvers.

A third man, also wearing a balaclava, was driving the getaway car, which was stolen.

Meanwhile, police were investigating a separate robbery yesterday in which a robber was stabbed in the eye.

A “large amount of money” being delivered to a business in Egerton St, Silverwater was stolen at 2.10pm.

A NSW police spokeswoman said one of the offenders was stabbed in the eye following a fight with the delivery man. The thieves fled the scene in a metallic blue Nissan Pulsar registered WUU 836.
