There are some flaws in your (HCI) logic here. You are stating
that it is a possibility that a rapist could get your
gun from you. You are correct. That is always a
possibility, but in this case, you must consider the
alternative. The alternative is to experience a brutal,
dehumanizing experience from which you may not live
anyway, but even if you do, you will never fully recover
from. REAL rape vicims never fully recover and it isn’t
just them who suffer. Imagine being the spouse who can
never experience love-making without knowing that the
shudder that she exeriences is when, for a split second,
she wasn’t making love to you, but being raped all over
again.

These are the possibilities as I see them. I prefer to
go down with some sort of fight. My wife’s gun is so
small of a caliber that I doubt that in a stressful
situation that she could actually pull off a fatal shot.
Dispite what the movies show, people are remarkably
difficult to kill. However, she doesn’t need to kill
him. If she is able to puncture him anywhere and he
survives, he will go to a hospital for treatment
(gunshot wounds are extrodinarily painful) and thus be
aprehended. Once he is out on bail, I will take care of
the rest.

Here is a Winston Churchill quote that summarizes my
feelings about this. “If you will not fight for the
right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you
will not fight when your victory will be sure and not
too costly, you may come to the moment when you will
have to fight with all the odds against you and only a
small chance of survival. There may even be a worse
case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of
victory, because it is better to perish than to live as
slaves.”

Don’t be a slave to those who would hijack your body
and your liberies! Protect yourself! It is legal and
moral. Just do it
