Guns for self defense
*Oops, Wrong House:* An Idaho County Sheriff’s deputy was shot Wednesday
night after an intruder allegedly forced his way into the officer’s
home. It happened a little after 6 p.m. According to the Idaho County
Sheriff’s Office, they received a phone call from a deputy’s wife
advising that her husband had been shot and that a suspect, who had also
been shot, was in custody. Corporal Jim Gorges, was on-duty in his home
9 miles up Kidder Ridge outside of Kooskia. The suspect knocked on the
door, and as Gorges answered the door, the suspect allegedly pushed the
door in and fired a shot. Corporal Gorges returned fire, and hit the
suspect. (I have to wonder if the deputy checked by peephole and voice
before opening the door.)

*Oops, Wrong Driveway: *DeKalb County police continued Friday to look
for two suspects after a man shot and killed a third attacker who tried
to rob his family as they returned home from a school event. DeKalb
Police spokesman Jonathon Ware said Ronald Johnson, 36, and his family
were returning to their home in south DeKalb County and getting out of
their vehicle when the suspects, armed with a handgun and a shotgun,
attempted to rob them shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday. Johnson pulled his
own gun and killed one of the suspects, Ware said, and the other two men
fled on foot.

*Michigan Shooting, More Details:* ?The intruder claimed ignorance,
walked down the condo’s stairs and left through the homes front door,
according to police. The homeowner attempted to detain him, and they
struggled on the lawn, police said. The intruder then fled. But he
returned, charged at the homeowner and told him he also had a gun. He
then tried to wrest the gun away from the owner, Maierle said. In the
struggle, a shot was fired into the ground. “Somehow the gun was
re-racked with another shell and fired again, shooting the suspect in
the right leg just below his knee,” Maierle said. “It caused extensive
damage.” (When long guns are carried into close proximity of potential
assailants, they are likely to become objects of struggles.)
