HOMEOWNER IS KILLED IN FIGHT ABOUT GARAGE

LOGAN SQUARE — A Logan Square homeowner was fatally shot Monday after he
confronted two men who were urinating on his garage, Chicago police said.

James Michael Baker, 34, was pronounced dead in his back yard in the 2800
block of North Rockwell Street, a spokesman from the Cook County medical
examiner’s office said.

Baker approached the two men at 5 p.m. and one of them pulled out a gun,
Grand Central Area Detective Richard Rybicki said. Baker was shot in the leg
and back when he tried to run to his house, Rybicki said.

Police said there were several witnesses. Two men were questioned Tuesday
night and released, Rybicki said. No arrests have been made.

Baker, a locksmith, had lived in the neighborhood for about five years with
his wife, Linda, and two children, a boy and a girl, neighbors said.

This story was not reported until Wednesday, though it occurred on Monday
and Channel 7 (ABC) had a helicopter on the scene. The preceding article
does not cover the facts.

Mr. James Baker was a leader in his Chicago community fighting the
gangbangers in his neighborhood. He believed in 911, as he had made several
calls to 911 complaining about the gang problem near his home. When these
hoods confronted him in the alley with guns, his only defense was 911. He
ran! The first bullet hit him in the back of the calf. As he was falling
down, the second bullet hit him in the back near the lower spine and
traveled
threw his body lodging near his neck.

His wife called 911, an ambulance arrived 20 minutes later. This was 5
minutes after he was dead. The police had already been on the scene for 15
minutes and the fire department there for about 10 minutes. Where was the
ambulance? He was still alive. This is the sad death of a man who put his
faith in 911 and believing that the Chicago police would protect him. Now
the
city is not even telling the truth about his death.
