I’m feeling ill…
OK, so in the interest of always making my own decisions and never geing a sheep, (no matter who the head ram is)I have been surfing the VPC and HCI sites. Ok, curiosity had a lot to do with it as well.
Anyway, after wading through all the stats, I came to a few conclusions.
1) They look good. They take great care to make it all look very scientific and factual. You really have to be very analytical and dig very deep to find the errors.
2) They don’t break it down in any meaningful fashion. They separate by male, female, old, young, race, etc. But they don’t differentiate between a person killed during the commission of a crime and a person killed who is totally innocent.
3) They count EVERYTHING. If a drug kingpin is gunned down by the police, it is counted as a homicide. If a burglar is killed while trying to rape a woman, they count it.
4) They aren’t interested in registration. They want a total ban. They have even said that registration is not the best method.
For anyone who doesn’t view everything cynically and search out proof on everything, this will sound very plausible to them. It is no wonder that there are so many sheeple willing to go along with these stats. Many people are more than happy to read something like that and think that it counts as research and look no furhter.
I beg of you all: DIG DEEPER!! Keep in mind that every agency has its own bias, for its own reasons. When someone quotes a stat, make them prove it. Look at the figures and ask – how many of those people killed by guns are killed because they were comitting a criminal act? Should we cry over dead rapists? I think not.
