MUNCIE – Forcing his way into the home of an ex-girlfriend who then shot him landed a Muncie man a trip to hospital Wednesday night and a ticket to jail, authorities said.

The man, identified by police as Tommy Page, 38, was listed in fair condition late Thursday at Ball Memorial Hospital. After being treated for a gunshot wound to his side, Page will be taken to the Delaware County jail, where he will be held on preliminary charges of residential entry.

Two days before the shooting, Charlotte Johnson, 1520 E. Kirk St., filed a report with city police complaining that Page had been stalking her.

About 9:15 p.m., Johnson heard the door bell ring, and opened the door to find Page. Johnson told police she tried to slam the door on her ex-boyfriend, but he was able to force his way in, according to arrest records.

Page started yelling at Johnson, and when he started to become “aggressive,” the woman picked up her handgun and shot him, Deputy Police Chief Terry Winters said.

Johnson, whose 14-year-old daughter was inside the home with her, had warned Page that she was going to shoot him if he didn’t stop being aggressive, police said.

“Everything we have points to self-defense,” Winters said. “She was in fear of him attacking her.”

Gun Control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally
superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound.
