Burglary Suspect Fatally Shot At Indy Home

A burglary suspect was fatally shot Wednesday evening allegedly as he
tried to enter a home on the city’s north side.

Authorities said the screams of the homeowner, an elderly
wheelchair-bound woman, alerted her 34-year-old son, who said he grabbed
a gun and fired at the intruder as he tried to break in through a front
porch window of the home in the 2800 block of North Hillside Avenue. The
shooting happened around 9:30 p.m., police said.

A police report identified the 34-year-old as Damon Christian.

“The homeowner’s son fatally wounded (the intruder) after … firing
approximately two times through the window, striking the suspect,
killing him dead outside the residence,” Indianapolis police Sgt.
Russell Burns said.

Homicide detectives are questioning Christian.
Marion County prosecutors will review the case to determine whether
charges will be filed.
Investigators were trying to determine the intruder’s identity and
whether he was armed.

The police report said that two other people, a male senior citizen and
unidentified 17-year-old male, also were in the home at the time of the
shooting.
