Dallas Lawmakers Focus on Gun Safety

Officials in Dallas, Texas, say gun-show
regulation will be a high priority item on their
agenda, the Dallas Morning News reported Jan.
8.

Currently, state law doesn’t provide
municipalities with any authority to regulate gun
shows. But Dallas officials want to change that
by introducing a measure in the next session of
the Texas legislature that would give the city
authority to regulate gun shows on municipal
property.

City Council member Leo Chaney originally
sought a ban on holding gun shows on city
property. “I was told there was nothing we could
do,” he recalled. He found that he needed to
approach the state legislature to “give us the
flexibility to determine who has the right to
operate in our facilities.”

Opponents of the measure are ready to take
action against the city’s proposal. “They’re not
going to get it through,” said David Cook of the
North Texas Gun Club Inc., the promoter of the
only gun show on Dallas property last year. “We
have such a giant lobby down there, and
nationally, that they’re just spitting in the wind.”

In addition to regulating gun shows, Dallas
officials have established a city agenda focused
on public safety. At the request of the police
department, the city plans to propose a law that
would allow officers to confiscate weapons when
responding to domestic-violence calls.

“Nearly everything we’re asking for deals with
citizen protection,” said Sandy Greyson,
chairwoman of the City Council’s
legislative-affairs committee. “We want to keep
our neighborhoods up and improve the quality of
life for our citizens.”

BS! What you want and what you will get are two differnt things….. The only thing you are “improving the quality of” is the BG’s working environmemt!
Yeah sure , let’s make the streets safer for rapists and stalkers and spouse abusers, sounds good to me
