Gun registry doesn’t target the criminals

——————————————————————————–

I would like to respond to a letter Jan. 12 regarding Canada’s gun registry. Don’t bother congratulating Canadian gun owners for registering our guns. We may have complied with this draconian law, but we’re anything but happy about it. We registered because we were threatened with jail time, fines, unannounced searches of our homes and confiscation of private property. All one has to do is read Bill C-68 to see how the Liberal government has eroded Canadians’ rights and freedoms.

One of the major issues with this law is that it targets the wrong people. It does nothing to stop criminal activity because it does not apply to criminals. It is highly unlikely that anyone will smuggle in a firearm and then register it before using it in a crime. If you think that spending over a billion dollars to register my skeet gun will stop crimes against women, I’ve got some swamp land in Alberta you might be interested in.

To say there were some problems at the start-up of the registry is a colossal understatement. From its inception to now, this registry is a prime example of government inefficiency. The problems are ongoing, with no light at the end of the tunnel. Why we keep pouring more money into this fiasco is anyone’s guess. This money would be far better utilized by increasing police presence, tightening our border crossings and creating more avenues for victims of domestic violence — instead of flushing it down the toilet that is the Canadian Firearms Registry.
