Killings prove gun registry is useless

——————————————————————————–

I was disappointed when I read that Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan, in response
to questions about the killings of four RCMP officers in Alberta, was stubbornly
sticking to her position that the billion-dollar long-gun registry is a valuable
crime-fighting tool.

This horrible event clearly demonstrates that this expensive program is useless
in preventing crime and gun violence. I would hope that someone in McLellan’s position
would see that.

How could the police trust the gun registry, which is, at best, an inaccurate and
incomplete list of guns in Canada. I can’t imagine that police procedure would be
influenced in any way by information produced by this database. An honest, responsible
government would admit its mistake and stop the flow of our money into the gun registry.
To prevent gun violence, we need to toughen the justice system and aggressively
apprehend and prosecute criminals.

Had James Roszko been in jail, where he clearly belonged, this latest tragedy would
have been prevented.
