Man free on bail is arrested in second shooting: 18-year-old picked up
after nightclub gunplay in Sept. 22, again Oct. 16 in street

CHILLIWACK – An 18-year-old who was free on bail after a nightclub
shooting in September is under arrest again, this time in connection
with a shooting in broad daylight on a busy street.

Police are investigating whether the two Chilliwack shootings are
related to the notoriously violent Fraser Valley-based UN Gang.

Shots were exchanged between the occupants of an SUV and a sedan on
Young Road in Chilliwack at about 2 p.m. on Oct. 16. Everyone involved
ditched the vehicles and ran off, said Const. Bert Paquet. The teen was
arrested nearby.

“We’re very lucky [none of the many witnesses were hurt],” he said.

The Chilliwack teen was free on bail on weapons charges in relation to a
Sept. 22 shooting at Tornado Joe’s Night Club in Chilliwack. He is
alleged to have opened fire on a 25-year-old Vancouver man, hitting him
once.

His bail has been revoked and Paquet said his name will be released when
charges are laid.

“We’re trying to establish if there’s a connection with gang activity
in
the area,” Paquet said. “[The UN Gang] have a lot of affiliates in the
Abbotsford area.

“We’re just trying to connect the dots.”

The UN Gang got its name from its multicultural makeup, which includes
Caucasians, Asians, Persians and Indo-Canadians. It is a relatively new
criminal organization but one that has quickly developed a reputation
for violence.
